The investment manager research (IMR) team oversees the fund managers of Canada Life’s mutual and segregated funds. They monitor, evaluate, and rate the funds and their managers. This helps to ensure the managers and funds on our platform are relevant and competitive so you can feel confident you are providing the right investment solutions to your clients. 

Portfolio manager changes   

Joel Tillinghast, one of the portfolio managers on Canada Life Fidelity NorthStar®, is retiring from active portfolio management at the end of 2023.

On Nov. 16, 2021, portfolio managers Sam Chamovitz and Morgen Peck were added as co-managers to Canada Life Fidelity NorthStar® Fund. Joel will co-manage these portfolios until the end of 2023. All portfolio management teams will stay in place. The fund’s investment objective and strategy remain unchanged.

Both Sam and Morgen have worked closely with Joel for almost 15 years. They were co-managers with Joel on the Fidelity Low-Priced Stock fund (available only to U.S. investors). They all share a similar investment philosophy focused on value, quality and portfolio construction style.  Morgen and Sam also have established long-term track records in both U.S. and international small cap equities.

Sam is an experienced portfolio manager who has been in the investments industry since 2002. He currently manages the Fidelity International Small Cap Fund and Fidelity Advisor International Small Cap Fund (available only to U.S. investors). Sam has also been co-manager of the Fidelity Low-Priced Stock Fund (available only to U.S. investors) since April 2017. Before assuming his current position on Fidelity International Small Cap Fund in February 2014, Sam was a small cap international analyst covering the industrials sector. Before that he worked as a research analyst covering health care, real estate, and technology. During this time, he focused on non-U.S. small cap stocks. Before joining Fidelity in 2007, Sam held several roles at Putnam Investments, including investment associate, equity analyst, assistant vice president of All Cap Growth, and assistant vice president of Global Equity Research.

Morgen is also an experienced portfolio manager who has been in the investments industry since joining Fidelity in September 2003. She has been a co-portfolio manager of Fidelity Low-Priced Stock Fund since 2016. She has also managed the Fidelity Stock Selector Small Cap Fund (retail and advisor classes) and Fidelity Series Small Cap Opportunities Fund (available only to U.S. investors) since 2011. Before assuming her current position as a portfolio manager, Morgen was a domestic equity analyst at Fidelity covering small cap domestic equities.
